About Us / Contact Us
The original Cardiff Yacht Company was established in 2011 whilst Peter was still a police officer, and initially provided theory learning opportunities.
In 2014 the first boat an IMX 38, aptly named X Beat established a presence on the water in the Bristol Channel mainly based at Cardiff Marina – we worked with some experience marketing companies and introduced over 150 people to sailing.
In 2015 X Beat was replaced by X Beat II a Beneteau 40.7 purchased with help from two customers – Iain and Andrew. A further 150 people had the benefit of an experience on the water.
In 2016 in partnership with Swansea Watersports RYA Sail Cruising qualifications were made available. The company focused on private tuition and skippered charter.
In 2018 a decision was made to rename the trading company as Cardiff and Swansea Yachting Company reflective of our ability to be based in two centres. This trading company will incorporate Cardiff Yachting Company which will offer RYA accredited training.
In February 2019 we became a RYA recognised training centre for Powerboat Training. An Internship scheme was trialed and our first intern was offered a bursary to complete his YM training. The company prospered with turnover increasing by 50% and much to look forward.
2020 was a challenging year and lock-down taking 3 months without any income (or government support). Our second intern was engaged. The end of the season has seen a change in the ownership of X Beat II.
2021 has seen already an additional owner syndicate buying Atlantic Blue, and probably there maybe a third sundicate being assmbled to buy another sail yacht and even a fourth thinking about a motor-boat. So with the vaccination programme making great advances there is some serious optimism for the forthcoming season. We have also made a concious attempt to basing our sail yachts at Portishead and Swansea marinas for published weeks throughout the 2021 season .
Cardiff & Swansea Yachting Company
For the 2021 season we will operate from bases at Cardiff, Portishead, and Swansea. In order to provide clarity to customers as to the types of services that are being offered the company has been split into two divisions.
Cardiff Yachting Company (Sea School) – This is a RYA Recognised Training Centre offering RYA Interactive courses for Essential Navigation and the VHF operator. The VHF course is also offered as a classroom course, and also the Diesel Engine 1 day course. (Subject to Covid Restrictions) The Day Skipper Theory (5 Days) and Yachtmaster Theory courses are also run (6 Days). With competition online they are also offered as 1:1 or 2:1 Tutorials. The RYA Sail Cruising Programme is being provided by Swansea Watersports and run on X Beat II. Any course can be booked and paid for online using a PayPal facility. We aslo offer RYA Powerboat Training.
Cardiff Yachting Company – Based at Penarth Marina we offer private tuition and skippered charter aboard X Beat II (and in 2020 a RIB or Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat). There are organised cruises and a regatta entry arranged where you can come and join us – otherwise where we go is subject to you, your time, tides, and of course, the weather. We also offer Private Tuition aboard X Beat II and X Beat III for day, half day and evening periods from Penarth Marina. This is also available on your own boat as well – power or sail. We also offer coaching for trainee skippers who work or intend to work in the commercial boat world – either sail or power. Finally, we can help customers making a purchase, refit, delivery and also managing the yacht for charter or even personal use.
Our compelling aim is to ensure that we offer the most fully rounded and comprehensive service to yachting clients from near and far and that the utmost in professional support is extended to the clients we serve.
Atlantic Blue, X Beat II and X Beat III are berthed at Penarth Marina, CF64 1TT adjacent to the Pier 64 Restaurant
